Since its beginning in 1998, Amanda Nisbet Design has become one of New York’s most distinctive, sought-after creators of refreshing, abundant elegance. The designer’s signature bold embrace of pattern, color and texture, all held in exquisite balance, has enlivened exclusive residences in North America and Europe, and resulted in gracious, welcoming interiors that express Nisbet’s special alchemy of refinement and livability.

What inspired this career path for you? I couldn’t get a job as an actress, because that’s what I really wanted.

What is your go-to source for inspiration? Always the Bergdorf windows.

Tell us about your creative process. Really intuitive; my starting point is always the fabrics/textiles. They always inspire me the most.

Describe your style in 6 words or less. Elegant, comfortable. Colorful.

What’s a staple in your tool kit? Color deck.

Who do you look up to in the design world? European designers – John Stefanidis. All my peers in the design community. You can learn from everyone, and I appreciate everyone’s work and aesthetic.

If you could design a space for anyone, what kind of space and for whom would it be? Kate Middleton’s home — I’d make it a little more exciting.

Tell us your favorite design-related word, phrase, or quote. By Ralph Waldo Emerson, “ Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art.”

Which design blog, website, TV show, or magazine would you be lost without? Vogue Living Australia, World of Interiors

Share a little bit about the pieces you’re consigning on Viyet, e.g., do you have any unique backstories, in what kind of space do you hope they end up, etc.? All of these pieces are from my NYC home that I’ve lived in for 20 years. I’m downsizing since my children are now grown up. They have a lot of personal sentiment.

What do you love about Viyet? I love the instant gratification of being able to find a diverse group of pieces
